A flight attendant has answered some of the most common questions she gets from passengers including why it's so important to put chairs upright and tray tables away during landing and takeoff.

Aflight attendant has opened up about her job, revealing "secrets" that only cabin crew know - including why they ask passengers to "stow away tray tables" before landing and takeoff.

Cierra_Mistt on TikTok told her 3.5 million followers all about the unique profession and answered questions travellers are intrigued to know.

In the video, titled "spicy flight attendant and pilot tea", Cierra told her followers why cabin crew dim the lights before takeoff and landing.

She said this is in the event of a crash or emergency.

The TikToker said: "Flight will always turn off the cabin lights during takeoff and landing."

This, she said, is "because that's most likely when we're going to get an emergency crash and so our eyes are going to already be adjusted to the outside settings".

Cierra went on: "Speaking of crashes, the reason we ask you guys to put your tray tables up and your seats forward is if we get in a crash.

"Because it actually only takes about 60 to 90 seconds for an entire plane to ignite in flames.

"That being said, if you have your tray table down or seat reclined, you're not only putting yourself in danger but the people sitting next to you."

Cierra also said that flight attendants sometimes "hang out" with passengers from the plane if they're staying at the same place.

She said: "This might shock you but I get asked this all the time.

"If you invite us to come hang out with you guys, the chances are we're totally down."
